The ongoing second edition of the Onitsha Unity Cup competition bankrolled by Onitsha Ex-Footballers in Disapora (ONEFID) will produce a new champion as Mourinho FC is set to slug it out with Michael FC in what would be a mouthwatering cracker.
To book their places for the final match of the competition, Mourinho FC saw off Neog FC 6-5 on penalties after playing out a one all draw in the first Semifinals clash played on Monday, 4th December 2023 at the Fegge Stadium Onitsha. Michael FC on the other hand saw off their opponent in Ozalla FA by a lone goal in the second Semifinals clash played on Tuesday, 5th December 2023 at the same venue.
Anambra 2023 Federation Cup champions, Ozalla FA had hitherto upended the defending Champions, Galaxy FC at the quarterfinals stage beating them 2-1 at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium in a match played on Thursday, 30th November 2023.
A total of 15 football clubs comprising of Bonfa FC, Diamond Stars FC, Fecan FC, Michael FA, Galaxy FC, Mourinho FC, All Stars FC, Global FC, Neog FC, Terich FC, Dynamites FC, Golden Boys FC, Ozalla FA, United FC and Peace FC are featuring in the second edition of the ONEFID Onitsha Unity Cup.
The winner of the competition goes home with the sum of a million naira while the 1st and 2nd Runners up will get N500,000 and N300,000 respectively. In the final of the maiden edition played on Sunday, 8th January 2023 at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium Onitsha, Galaxy FC saw off Mourinho FC 4-2 on penalties after 1-1 scoreline at regulation time to emerge champions.
