“ANAYD Advocates for Adolescent and Young Persons’ Health Rights in Africa: Anambra State Takes Center Stage in Stakeholders Meeting”

The need for the protection, welfare and rights of the adolescents and young persons in Africa has been advocated for, which in turn will help to promote access to a non discriminatory and integrated health services.

 

This was the focal point of discussion in a one-day stakeholders introductory meeting in Awka organized by the African Network of Adolescent and Young Persons Development (ANAYD). In her opening remarks, the Executive Secretary Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Pharm. Chisom represented by her confidential secretary Anita Osondu explained that majority of young persons in the society today are being marginalized especially where it concerns their health care and such called for a sustained awareness on the need to improve on their living conditions. She extended her heartfelt appreciation to the organization for choosing Anambra State. She promised that the ministry will assist in ensuring that the vision to the state is actualized.

 

Presenting the project’s overview, Project Lead of ANAYD Agnes Dogara who was representing the Executive Director, appreciated the stakeholders for their participation. She enumerated the objectives of the organization which Includes ensuring that young persons are actively involved in health related diseases like TB, HIV, malaria, through information sharing. For the project, she highlighted the different mapped out activities for Anambra State which she said will kickstart this November to end in February 2024.

 

Participants were drawn from key players in the health sector and the Media.
