The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the constitution of new Governing Councils for Tertiary institutuons in the country.
The approval was made public on Friday, 17th May 2024 through a memo signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
According to the memo, the appointments bear a Pro-Chancellor/Chairman and four external members for fifty (50) Federal Universities, thirty-seven (37) Federal Polytechnics and twenty-four (24) Federal Colleges of Education across the nation.
In the latest release, Amb. Greg Mbadiwe will serve as the new Chairman of the Governing Council for Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka while external members are Adaobi Chidera Obioha, Hon. Barr. Ibrahim Zailani, Lukman Abimbola Bello and Prof. Stephen Unachukwu Chuka.
The FG had earlier in June 2023 dissolved the existing Governing Council which was set up by the previous administration under H.E Muhammadu Buhari.
It is expected that the inauguration and retreat for the new Governing Council will take place on Thursday, 30th and Friday, 31st May 2024 at the National Universities Commission, Abuja with both events commencing by 9am on both days.
