Prof Angela Ufele-Obiesie delivers the 103 NAU Inaugural lecture

Prof Angela Nwogor Ufele-Obiesie, a professor of animal physiology has asserted that Food molecules such as minerals and vitamins help the hormones to function effectively.

 

She said this while delivering the 103rd inaugural lecture of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka recently held at the University auditorium.

 

Speaking on the Impact of Nutrition on the Endocrine system, Prof Angela Ufele-Obiesie defined Endocrine system as a complex network of glands and organs and the second communication system in the body of an animal.

 

According to her, the endocrine systems are found in all animals. They use hormones to control and coordinate body metabolism, energy levels, reproduction, growth and development, stress, etc.

 

The 103 inaugural lecturer noted that lack of some micro and macro nutrients in the body results in malfunctioning of the cells which can lead to serious illness or death of the animal.

 

In her assertion, Selenium and Vitamin E are essential in the control of trypanosomiasis, longevity and enhancement of the reproductive hormones.

 

Prof Ufele-Obiesie informed that she did her Masters Degree and PhD research using the albino rats because of its similarities with human and a good laboratory animal.

 

Decorating her as the 103 inaugural lecturer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu who was ably represented by Prof Fredric Odibo the Special Assistant to the Acting Vice Chancellor on Academic matters praised her for the clarity of her lecture and it’s seamless delivery.
