Ifitedunu Unity Cup Is About Philanthropy and Community Service – Sponsors

By Ikenna Nwokedi

The children of the late Prince Sir Engr. Godwin and Princess Lady Cecelia Obinabo have stated that the ongoing Ifitedunu Unity Cup is about carrying on their family’s legacy of philanthropy and community service.

This development was made known by one of the benefactors, Jerome Obinabo, a Commissioner and former President of the Dallas Young Republicans during an interactive session with sports Journalists via Whatsapp at the weekend.

Obinabo averred that by sponsoring sporting activities for the youth in Ifitedunu Community, they honour their parents’ memory and perpetuate the spirit of giving that has been passed down through generations.

It is worth noting that the late Prince Sir Engr. Godwin, inherited his philanthropic traits from his own father, Igwe (King) Obinabo Okoli, Amadu I of Ifitedukpo (now known as Ifitedunu). Obinabo Okoli was a pioneer in community development, organizing events such as powerlifting, wrestling, and other activities for the youths in the ancient kingdom of Ifiteukpo.

The Obinabo children’s commitment to supporting the visionary leadership of President-General of the Community, Dr. Stephen Ufoaroh and his team is exemplary and commendable. Their dedication to giving back to their community is a testament to the values instilled in them by their parents and grandparents.

The ongoing Ifitedunu Unity Cup competition will see the winner smile home with the sum of One million naira, while the second, third, fourth and fifth placed teams will go home with the sum of 700 thousand naira, 500 thousand naira, 300 thousand naira and 200 thousand naira respectively.

The competition which commenced on Sunday, 22nd December 2024 will wind off with the grand finale scheduled to hold on Thursday, 2nd January 2025.

  2. Indeed, a great initiative! Recognizing the profound impact of sports on the social, academic, physical, and psychological well-being of young people. Especially in today’s society, where moral values and social cohesion are being challenged.

The investment in sports by the Children of Sir Godwin and Lady Cecilia is not only timely but also visionary. It sets a shining example for others to follow. Hopefully, this will inspire greater investment in sports and youth development, empowering our young people to become positive change-makers in society.
