The Director of the Centre for Environmental Conservation and Beautification at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ngozi N. Agu, has urged staff and students to join forces in maintaining a clean and friendly environment within the campus.
During a sensitization roadshow, Prof. Agu emphasized the urgent need for collective action to achieve a sustainable and healthy environment, free from indiscriminate refuse dumping, bush burning, open defecation, and reckless movement on lawns.
She also stressed the importance of conserving energy by switching off unused electrical appliances.
The Director warned that defaulters would face adequate punishment, as the present administration is committed to achieving a clean and healthy Unizik, citing the adage “cleanliness is next to godliness.”
Dr. Chioma Agbasimelo, Deputy Director of the center, reinforced the call for collaboration, stating that anyone found littering the environment would be made to sweep the area for a week and have their name published in the university bulletin.
Students spoken to during the exercise promised to contribute to achieving a clean and healthy Unizik.
