The Department of Educational Foundations at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) recently hosted its first-ever alumni homecoming, bringing together past and present students in a celebration of unity, reflection, and growth.
In his opening address, Dr. Onyiliofor Tagboo Uchenna described the event as an appraisal of the alumni and a testament to the strength and legacy of the department. He emphasized the department’s strategic role in shaping minds capable of transforming society, calling it the “mother department” and “the foundation itself” of the university’s academic structure.
Dr. Onyiliofor also highlighted the impact of social media on education and moral development, urging educators and policymakers to revisit the national curriculum to better prepare young people for the digital age.
The Head of Department, Dr. Ugochukwu Ifeyinwa Offor, welcomed the alumni and noted that the event marked a historic milestone for the department. She appealed for infrastructural support, including a departmental bus and lecture building, and encouraged alumni to contribute to these goals.
The President of the Alumni Association emphasized that the homecoming was not about showing off, but about fostering growth and development. He praised the lecturers for their dedication to excellence and noted that many graduates of the department are thriving in various fields.
The event featured award presentations to distinguished individuals, including the Acting Vice Chancellor, and a thanksgiving session. Attendees reconnected, exchanged pleasantries, and enjoyed a meal together, rekindling old friendships and forging new ones.
