Promoting Healthy Living: Faculty of Arts Health Summit at Nnamdi Azikiwe University

On August 6th, 2024, the Faculty of Arts Auditorium at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, hosted a Health Summit, attracting students and distinguished guests. The program emphasized the importance of healthy living, defined as a state of complete physical and mental well-being.

Mrs. Evelyn Ngozi Eke, a representative of Healthy Living, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the significance of balancing work and play and urging students to prioritize their health.

Dean Prof. Alvan Ikoku Nwamara commended the initiative and encouraged students to participate in free health checks. FASA Director of Health, Comr. Oraefo Somtochukwu, emphasized that health encompasses complete mental and physical well-being and expressed gratitude to various supporters, including Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Carol Arinze Umobi and Commissioner of Health Dr. Afam Obidike.

Mrs. Eke outlined six pillars of healthy living: physical fitness, nutrition, drug awareness, basic life-saving skills, personal hygiene, and sexual reproductive health. She also addressed gender-based violence and urged students to combat it.

The summit included spoken word performances and a biography of Mrs. Eke. Following her speech, students engaged in a Q&A session.

Highlights of the event includes Awards to Mrs. Evelyn Ngozi Eke and, in absentia, Dr. Afam Obidike. The event concluded with refreshments, continued health checks, and a vote of thanks from Comr. Oraefo Somtochukwu, who encouraged students to live healthy lives.
