World Anti Corruption day is celebrated every 9th December globally.This is a day set aside as a reminder that corruption undermines the potential of the largest generation of young people in history.This year’s theme is ,”Uniting the Youths Against Corruption:,Shaping Tomorrow ‘s Integrity.
This will also run as a biennial campaign to highlight the vital role of Young people playing their role in the fight against corruption as Corruption is intertwined in most of the challenges that today’s world faces.According to the UN statistics,1.9billion young people in the world fighting corruption is vital for the Future.
In her contribution,The Secretary Anambra State Anti Corruption Strategy Secretariat,Lilian Oguchi Osakwe ESq.emphasized that Corruption erodes the fabrics of the society, stifling progress and depriving young people of opportunities,But these Young ones also have the will power to change the narratives only if they set their minds towards meaningful change.She explained that Corruption manifests wherever and on whichever entity,be it family level,private bussiness or public institution power is entrusted and it is abused for personal gain.She therefore called on stakeholders to engage the youths in Active engagement, empowerment and ethical re -orientation from the cradle at the family level, educational institutions and peer groups..as this will help reduce corruption and achieve desired corrupt free egalitarian society we are desiring for.
Also the Executive Director Creative minds Center for Youths and Community Development,and The Coordinator CSOs/Media Accountability and Anti -Corruption Initiative Anambra State., Ugochi Freeman defined Corruption as a pervasive evil that affects us all ,by undermining trust in institutions,distorting markets and depriving citizens of their rightful benefits.Its time for us to unite against this evil norm that has eaten deep into everywhere.She ascertained that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility as we all have to hold ourselves accountable and as well hold our leaders accountable,Stressing that the youths should be given their rightful positions in politics and create jobs and as well harness their potential because our youths deserve More.
